ORANGE CITY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - An Orange City Police officer was arrested Tuesday on a felony warrant out of Georgia. Deputies say he resigned from the department after he was confronted about the charges.
Investigators say 25-year-old Joshua Fancher is charged with making terroristic threats. The case is out of Lowndes County, Georigia.
According to a news release from the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office: “The victim reported receiving numerous threatening messages from an unknown person attempting to extort her for nude photographs. The messages, which started via Instagram, included threats to kill the victim and kill and/or rape her family members if she didn’t provide the photos.”
Officials with the Orange City Police Department say Fancher became an officer less than a year ago. He’s never been disciplined and Orange City Police didn’t know about the Georgia investigation until Tuesday.
Deputies say Fancher’s apartment in DeLand has been searched. They say he’s now being held at the Volusia County Jail on no bond.
