SIESTA KEY, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say lightning struck and killed someone on a Florida beach.
Sarasota County Sheriff's officials say the person was struck on Siesta Key beach on Sunday afternoon.
News outlets report that lifeguards and first responders performed CPR on the victim, who was later declared dead at a hospital.
A series of heavy thunderstorms producing lightning, heavy rain and hail moved across southwest Florida's Gulf Coast on Sunday afternoon.
Officials said the person was struck around 2:15 p.m. Sheriff's officials haven't released the victim's name.
