The backstory:

Last year, the agency hosted a contest for employees and customers to vote to bring back a favorite stamp from the past for reprinting in 2026.

The postal service selected 25 stamps to choose from, including ones of favorite cartoon characters, and other celebratory and historical markers.

Mister Rogers 2018 stamp

The backstory:

The Mister Rogers stamp was dedicated on March 23, 2018. It honors the host and creative force behind the "Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood" children’s TV show, which aired nationally from 1968 to 2001, USPS said.

By the numbers:

Some 12 million of the stamps were ordered in 2018, and Isaac Cronkhite, the Postal Service’s chief processing and distribution officer, said the stamps sold out completely within just a few weeks at the time.

The USPS said more than 500,000 votes were received for the Stamp Encore contest, and Mister Rogers won by more than 40,000 votes over the next highest favorite.

Timeline:

The stamps will be back in circulation online and in post offices beginning June 1. They’ll be available in panes of 20, and a four-stamp souvenir sheet will also be offered.
