Marion County detectives seek murder suspect

MARION COUNTY, FLA (WOFL-FOX 35) - Detectives in Marion County are searching for the person who they said shot and killed a man Saturday night.

It happened just before midnight in the 20300 block of Northwest 1st Street near McIntosh.

Authorities said they were dispatched to the home on verbal disturbance call, but when they arrived they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. 

The man, later identified as 42-year-old Jack Merriman Jr., was quickly taken to an area hospital where he died. 

This is an ongoing investigation and police are asking anyone with information to call the Marion County Sheriff's office. The case has been forwarded to the State Attorney's Office for their review upon the conclusion of the investigation.
