Man gets 15 years for fatally stabbing sleeping relative

A north Florida man will serve 15 years in prison for fatally stabbing a sleeping relative.

The Ocala Star-Banner  reports that 30-year-old Jameel Faizad Ali pleaded guilty Wednesday to manslaughter as part of a deal with prosecutors. He had been charged with second-degree murder.

Authorities say Ali had been staying with his cousin and her family at their Ocala home in April 2011 when he stabbed his cousin's husband, Abool Imtiaz Karim, in the upper abdomen. Karim had been sleeping on the couch at the time of the stabbing.

A motive for the killing wasn't clear. Ali has a history of mental illness and told detectives at the time of his arrest that Karim often argued with him.
