Jury finds Amato guilty in murders of parents, brother

A jury has found Grant Amato guilty of three counts of first-degree premeditated murder in the shooting deaths of his parents and brother.

Amato, 30, was arrested in January after authorities discovered the bodies of the deceased inside the Amato Family's Chuluota home.

Prosecutors argued that Amato's motive was his online obsession with a Bulgarian webcam model. They say he stole around $200,000 from his family to send to her.  They said it was an argument over the money and Amato's online addictions that led Grant to kill mother Margaret, father Chad, and brother Cody. Prosecutors said Amato thought he would get away with it.

"He thought he had it figured out, folks. He thought he'd devised a way her could eliminate everyone in his way for Sylvia."

During the defense's closing arguments, lawyer Jeff Dowdy tried different tactics to discredit the state's versions of events and witnesses.

The penalty phase of Amato's trial is expected to begin Aug. 12.
