John Mina and Jerry Demings to step into new Orange County roles

Both John Mina and Jerry Demings will assume their new positions in Orange County on Tuesday morning.

Former Orlando Police Chief John Mina was sworn in as the Orange County Sheriff on Tuesday morning. The Orange County Sheriff's Office is the largest law-enforcement agency in Central Florida.

Mina's served as the Chief of the Orlando Police Department for four years. During this time, his agency handled many high-profile tragedies, like the Pulse Nightclub Massacre and the shooting death of Lt. Debra Clayton.

Orlando Rolon has already taken over as the new Orlando Police Chief.

The former Orange County Sheriff, Jerry Demings, will also step into his new role on Tuesday morning. He will take his Oath of Office, becoming the new Mayor of Orange County. He will be the county's first African American Mayor.

"I hope, I hope that this inspires every boy and girl that if you work hard and you play by the rules, you can become whoever you dream to be," Demings says.
