'If you built a chaos factory, you can't dodge responsibility for the chaos:' Apple CEO Tim Cook

PALO ALTO, Calif. (KTVU) - In a speech during the commencement ceremony at Stanford University, Apple CEO Tim Cook urged Silicon Valley's tech companies to take responsibility for the problems they create. 

Cook began Sunday's speech by praising the tech firms that have created some of the "most revolutionary inventions in modern history." He also commended the social media platforms that connect half of the world's people. 

Cook then took on the issue of data breaches and privacy violations.
“Lately,” he said, “it seems this industry is becoming better known for a less noble innovation the belief you can claim credit without accepting responsibility. We see it every day now with every data breach, every privacy violation, every blind eye turned to hate speech, fake news poisoning out national conversation.

Cook did not call out the companies by name, but told the class of 2019 that “if you built a chaos factory, you can't dodge responsibility for the chaos." 

Cook rounded out his speech with advice to the grads on leaving a legacy, and following their own paths to success.
