Crash, chemical spill closes I-75 in Florida
Drivers can expect a major Florida interstate to be closed for up to 12 hours following a crash and chemical spill Tuesday morning, authorities said. Crews are working to clean up the spill that happened after a semi overturned on I-75 at mile marker 391, approaching Gainesville.
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. - Interstate 75 in Florida was closed for over 14 hours on Tuesday following a crash and chemical spill that occurred earlier in the morning, authorities said.
Crews worked to clean up the Styrene chemical that leaked onto the road shortly before 6 a.m. after a southbound tanker overturned on I-75 at mile marker 391, approaching Gainesville. Both northbound and southbound traffic on I-75 were blocked, leaving many drivers at a standstill.
Troopers with the FHP were rerouting all southbound traffic onto to U.S. Hwy 441 High Springs and all northbound traffic onto State Road 222.

"Further investigation revealed that two tractor-trailers, two pickup trucks, one SUV, and one passenger vehicle were involved," said Lt. P.V. Riordan with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). "At this time it appears that a vehicle which hydroplaned, began the series of reactions and collisions
All lanes reopened just after 10 p.m.
