Deputies said a homeowner fatally shot an intruder following a series of burglaries at a Central Florida home.

A spokesman with the Lake County Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened early Tuesday morning, northeast of Eustis, at a residence in the Pine Lakes area.  Lt. John Herrell said the homeowner told investigators he confronted the intruder, and he shot him following a brief struggle.

"Someone had burglarized a home that's under renovation, as well as a storage container that's on an adjacent property he owns," said Herrell. "He called us back out, because he heard voices outside."

The deceased has been identified as Brandon Allen Woods, 27.  The homeowner was taken to the hospital as a precaution, but his injuries are not considered life threatening, authorities said.

Herrell said there were three separate burglaries at the home in the 24 hours preceding the shooting.

Without enough fuel to get deeper into space or closer to Earth, the dead rocket stage floated uncertainly until it entered a crash trajectory towards the moon.
