Funeral service announced for teen hit by 2 cars

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say a 14-year-old boy was hit and killed as he was crossing  John Young Parkway with several other juveniles Wednesday evening.  The deadly incident happened near Oakridge Road.  

Half-a-dozen patrol cars arrived at the scene and traffic was blocked for hours along the roadways. Authorities said the teenager, identified as Michael Angel Rodriguez, was hit by two vehicles as he crossed the highway from west to east, and died.  Both drivers remained on scene and have been questioned by investigators.

According to an FHP spokesperson, a 34-year-old Orlando woman who was driving a Cadillac struck the teen, throwing him into the path of a Dodge which was driven by a 31-year-old Orlando woman.  Neither of the women were injured.

A memorial will be held for Rodriguez on Wednesday, Jan. 20,  from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home at 4310 Curry Ford Road in Orlando.  His funeral service takes place on Thursday, Jan. 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 45 East Par Street, Orlando.  Committal services to follow at at the Greenwood Cemetery, at 1603 Green Wood Street, Orlando. His family says everyone is invited.
