Florida's back-to-school sales tax holiday begins next week

Attention parents: summer vacation for the kiddos is almost over and you're getting a break. A sales tax break, that is.

Florida's back-to-school tax holiday on school supplies begins August 2 and runs through August 6. This means you won't pay sales tax on many supplies that kids need when they head back to class next month.

Some of the items include:

  • Clothing shoes, and certain accessories for less than $60
  • School supply items under $15
  • Personal computers and some related accessories ($1,000 of less per item, must be purchased for noncommercial home or personal use)

Of course, there are exceptions to the holiday. For instance, "any eligible items in a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport" are not covered. Repairs and alterations of eligible items also will not be tax-free.
