Florida high speed police chase: fugitive drives into oncoming traffic, 2 innocent drivers hit

Bodycam footage from Florida deputies shows a high speed chase ending in the arrest of a fugitive.

The video, released by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, shows the man ramming into patrol vehicles, driving into oncoming traffic, hitting two innocent drivers and crashing before being apprehended by a K-9.

What led to the high speed chase? 

The backstory:

Deputies said they spotted 39-year-old Randolph Brown, a Lake County fugitive, in the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 7, in the area of DeLeon Springs. 

Reports show Brown had a warrant out for his arrest for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and he also had charges for fleeing from deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in the past.

How did deputies catch the fugitive?

What we know:

Multiple deputies then follow Brown as he weaves in and out of traffic at dangerous speeds. The video shows sheriffs putting down spike strips on the road to try and stop the fugitive.

Throughout the chase, Brown is seen to ram into patrol vehicles, drive into oncoming traffic, cut into heavy traffic and hit two innocent drivers.

Brown eventually crashes through a construction area on the side of the road in DeLand.

Video shows Brown calmly exiting the car and walking. He then begins to run when a K-9 is released by deputies.

The K-9, named Red, is seen to block and stop Brown in his tracks.

Deputies then surround Brown, and he is arrested. 

Reports show the two innocent drivers that were hit are OK and only reported having neck pain from the crash.

Deputies said they searched Brown's car and found a loaded firearm, as well as a backpack containing various drugs.

In addition to his no-bond warrant, reports show Brown was arrested on the following charges …

  • Aggravated fleeing
  • Battery on a law enforcement officer
  • 2 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer
  • Battery on a law enforcement K-9
  • Resisting arrest with violence
  • Resisting arrest without violence
  • 2 counts of hit-and run-with injuries
  • Armed trafficking in Oxycodone
  • Possession of MDMA, Xanax, other prescription drugs and marijuana with intent to sell
  • Possession of Suboxone
  • Habitually driving with a suspended license
