Family: Woman killed trying to sell phone on mobile app

Relatives of a murdered mother and realtor are planning her funeral while still in shock that she was most likely killed over a cell phone.

Police say 42-year-old Martha Teran was shot in the stomach Sunday evening outside of the Medieval Times parking lot. Her family says she was trying to sell an iPhone 7 through a mobile app. She was rushed to a hospital but later died.

The close-knit family is still reeling from what seems like such an unimaginable chain of events and want justice for the mother killed so senselessly.

Teran’s relatives say she was a loving mother who was simply selling a cell phone in a parking lot in broad daylight. The phone had been purchased at an Apple store and was being re-sold using an app called ‘Offer Up’ that connects buyers and sellers.

Teran had pulled into the back parking lot of Medieval Times off Stemmons Freeway with one of her children to make the exchange when she was shot by a gunman.

Sonia Granoff says she and Teran were realtors at Gilchrist & Company. She says Teran was relatively new to the business but was eager to learn and help out.

Teran was planning to move to Louisiana to move join her common-law husband. Her friends say it's hard to imagine someone as caring as her would be targeted.

“This person is someone who I feel didn't know her, someone who doesn't value life and has no respect for humanity and absolutely needs to be caught,” said Granoff.

This is the second murder linked to an Offer Up sale in Dallas in the last four months. In late June, a 20-year-old man was attempting to sell a phone using the app when the supposed buyers tried to steal his car and then shot and killed him when he wouldn't hand over his keys.

Teran's family said they had not heard about the other shooting in June. For now, they say they are heartbroken and want to hold the person or people responsible for murder.

A GoFundMe has been set up for Teran’s funeral expenses.

There is a reward of up to $5,000 available for information that can lead to an arrest and indictment in the case. Tipsters should call 214-373-TIPS and can remain anonymous.
