Dr. Phillips Center receives $3M gift for construction

The Doctor Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday announced its largest donation ever received.  The $3 million donation from the Harvey and Carol Massey Foundation will help to complete Phase II of the Arts Center, officials said.

Phase II construction includes Steinmetz Hall, a 1,700-seat acoustic theater, and The Green Room, a smaller venue.

"We've been involved in this from the very beginning and the early stages, and as a result of it, we've made two previous contributions to this," said Harvey Massey, president of Massey Services, a pest-control and lawn-care company.

Construction on Phase II began in March and is expected to be complete in 2020.
