Among the smallest of the African pigs, red river pigs grow to be about 40 to 50 inches long and can weigh between 100 and 285 pounds, according to the Smithsonian's National Zoo & Conservation Biology Institute.

Red river hogs are omnivores that will eat roots, fruit, nuts, insects and snails.

They are also most active at night, which is when they spend the most time foraging for food.
