Deputies say serial burglar targeted church while out on bond
DELTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office say surveillance camera video from River City Dentistry in DeBary shows a man staking out the place.
That man is Anthony Serafin, according to investigators. He is charged with breaking and entering the business and stealing money.
Serafin was arrested, but while out on bond last week, deputies say he did the same thing, only this tim, his target was a church.
"Who steals from churches?" asked Laura Williams with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. "That's really the sign of someone who's desperate."
Money was taken from an envelope inside the school on the campus of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Deltona. The money was supposed to go to pay for a children's graduation ceremony.
"It really upsets me!" said church parishioner Madeline Tagg. "I mean, a church?"
Serafin has a long criminal history in both Volusia and Seminole counties. He also spent time in prison, twice -- once for burglary with assault, and once for grand theft.
"We'd like to get him off the streets so he doesn't terrorize businesses, and certainly not churches," Williams added.
