A man was shot and killed inside a Merritt Island, Flordia Walmart on Sunday night.

Deputies with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office say that the shooting happened inside the store, at 1500 East Merritt Island Causeway. At least one gunshot rang out at the entrance of the store, as customers were shopping. The victim, 27-year-old Shawn Robbins, deceased upon arrival.  Deputies said that 27-year-old Rashad Gibson shot Robbins.

“This involves a woman in a relationship with those parties,” said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tod Goodyear.

Robbins traveled to Walmart, where Gibson is employed, to confront him.   Walmart is not commenting about this incident. There is no word on the status of the employee, and no word about the in-store policy of whether a worker can carry a gun.

No arrest has been made yet. The Sheriff's Office says Gibson is cooperating with investigators and remained on scene after the shooting.  The State Attorney's Office will be given the case and prosecutors will decide if there should be charges.

“The ‘self-defense’ is one thing we will look at,” Goodyear said.

Anyone who has any information about the case is asked to call Agent Wendy Wheeler of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office at 321-633-8413 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
