Deer swims along Monterey Co. coast

A woman spotted a deer swimming off the Monterey County coast.

Mary-Kathryn Salameh pulled out her phone and recorded video of the deer.

The sighting occurred on October 17th at the Coast Guard Pier in Monterey at about 8 a.m.

Salameh called the incident a "very interesting encounter." She tells KTVU, "I know that deer typically don't swim in the ocean and it's suggested that it may have done this to escape a threat, but this one appeared to be a pro swimmer and it was a very quiet morning."

The video shows the deer quickly swimming to the shore before it frolicked in some waves.
