Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens hosting Pet Amnesty Day

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens, along with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, are hosting a Pet Amnesty Day on Saturday, June 1.

Central Florida residents are asked to surrender unwanted pets to help reduce the number of non-native species from being released into Florida habitats.

The event is free to the public.

Animals that will be accepted include non-native species of reptiles, amphibians, mammals, birds, fish and invertebrates.

Domestic animals such as dogs, cats guinea pigs and rabbits will not be accepted.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Zoo's front entrance.

People who surrender their pets will not face any consequence or cost, whether the animals are kept illegally or legally.
