Brother of Orlando Police Chief held without bond
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Edward Mina is being held without bond for now. The 51-year-old was polite as he made his first appearance before a judge Thursday afternoon.
Edward Mina, the Orlando Police Chief’s brother, is charged with sexual battery on a child under 12 and lewd and lascivious battery.
Orange County Sheriff's deputies say Edward Mina actually battered a girl for three years starting when she was just 10 years old. OCSO says the child reported the abuse to her school resource officer early Tuesday morning. Deputies arrested Edward Mina hours later after a taped conversation with the victim.
After a quick conversation with Edward Mina, the public defender did not object to the no bond status on the sexual battery charge against his new client.
If, at some point, another judge opted to set bond on that charge, this judge ordered Edward Mina to have no contact with the victim or any other child under the age of 18.
