Brother of Orlando Police Chief drops request for bond

The Orlando Police Chief's brother is staying in jail. Edward Mina came into court on Thursday and asked the judge that he be allowed to bond out, but then changed his mind at the last minute. His public defender told the judge that they ar dropping their request for a bond, at least for now.

Edward Mina is charged with Sexual Battery on a Child Under 12 and Lewd and Lascivious Battery. Orange County Sheriff's deputies say that Edward Mina sexually battered a child for three years, starting when she was just 10-years-old.

The child came forward, reporting the abuse to her school resource officer during the last week of school. Detectives arrested Edward Mina hours later after having the girl make a call to Edward Mina, confronting him, that they recorded.

During that conversation, investigators quoted Edward Mina as saying "If you tell them the truth, I am going to jail for a long time. If you don't tell them the truth, I will do anything."

Pretrial and trial in this case are set for August.
