Accused drug dealer charged in overdose

An Altamonte Springs man has been charged with murder by controlled substance, in connection with a fatal fentanyl overdose in January.

Investigators were called to an apartment on Summit Ridge Place near Longwood on Jan. 13, after 46-year-old Jon H. Wiggins was discovered by a friend, unresponsive on the living room floor.  He was later pronounced dead and a subsequent test by the medical examiner revealed Norris died from fentanyl.

Using a phone belonging to Wiggins, investigators were able to trace the source of the drugs to Austin Garrett Smiley.

Once autopsy results confirmed the victim’s cause of death, Smiley was arrested and charged. Authorities said Wiggins was a veteran of the Marines and National Guard. His mother is also expected to attend.
