2 shot in drive-by shooting at a Winter Garden park

Police returned to Zanders Park Tuesday morning to continue to search for evidence after a drive by shooting Monday night.

According to the Winter Garden Police Department, a suspect or suspects opened fire just after 9 p.m. shooting into the park as the car drove down East Bay Street.

Lt. Scott Allen said a man was critically injured and woman is expected to be okay after being shot and running to a nearby home for help.  The Winter Garden Police Department has identified the victims as 45-year-old Sherman Ivy and 19-year-old Jonqualia McCrary.

“When I got outside it was kids running and screaming,” said Fred Wilson, who lives two houses away from the park’s pool.

“I heard 14, 15 gunshots and somebody ran back in the house and said they were shooting at the kids,” said Larry Sanders, who lives nearby.

Sanders and other neighbors speculate that Monday nights shooting is “retaliation” for a previous shooting at the Park.

Allen confirmed that there was an incident on May 27 in which one person was injured and they are investigating whether or not there is a connection.

“We have to consider that, but we also have to not consider that because it could lead us in the wrong direction. We are looking into it we’re trying to see if it’s related,” Allen said, adding that investigators would like to talk to individuals linked to the May 27 shooting but were not ready to name a suspect or person of interest or release a description of the suspect vehicle Tuesday morning.
