1 dead after shots fired into SUV, troopers say

The driver of an SUV was fatally shot by an occupant of another passing vehicle, authorities said.  The incident happened Thursday afternoon, along just north of the intersection of Alafaya Trail and Colonial Drive in Orange County.

A passenger in the SUV is now being questioned by investigators and is fully cooperating, they said.

"We have a deceased black male in his 20s.  He was taken to the hospital, but sadly, he died," said Jane Watrel with the Orange County Sheriff's Office. "This was not a random act.  We believe the two victims were targeted."

Law enforcement agencies are now searching for a white, four-door Nissan Altima, with dark-tinted windows.

"We are still seeking a white Nissan Altima with two suspects inside, believed to be armed and dangerous," said Watrel. "We want to take these dangerous individuals off the street."

The Altima may have bullet holes on the driver's side.  A spokesperson with the Florida Highway Patrol said it remains unclear whether shots were exchanged between the two vehicle involved in the shooting.  A trooper witnessed part of the incident and investigators intend to review recording from his dashboard camera.

"My trooper said he saw gunfire being exchanged, but whether or not it was both vehicles participating, we're going to wait to review that video," said FHP Lt. Kim Montes.

Following the shooting, the driver of that SUV crashed into a third vehicle, driven by a woman who was not injured, Montes said.
