Deputies say woman threw coffee on mother, baby in leash dispute

A Volusia County woman is facing battery charges after she threw coffee on a mother and her baby during a dispute over a dog leash, according to deputies. According to the arrest affidavit, deputies also contacted ICE, determining the woman is in the country illegally. She is now subject to deportation, and a detainer has been placed on her.

Court filing suggests possible FBI criminal probe in cruise ship death

Newly released court documents indicate the FBI may open a criminal investigation into the death of 16-year-old Anna Kepner, the Titusville teen who died earlier this month aboard a Carnival cruise ship. Kepner’s cause of death has remained a mystery since she died Nov. 7 while sailing with her family, and the FBI has not commented publicly on the case.

Teen pilot uninjured in Palm Bay plane crash

After a small plane crashed in Palm Bay Nov. 17, the Brevard County Fire Department said the teen pilot was able to walk away from the crash without any injury to himself or to others. No property was damaged, but the biggest hassle was that the road was blocked, fire officials said.

Florida man denied bond on murder-for-hire charges

A missing persons case that began in the United Kingdom is now a Florida homicide case. FDLE arrested Dwain Hall on charges of first-degree murder & kidnapping in connection of the death of a woman from the UK. The victim reported missing after she didn’t get on her flight back to England on October 13. Her remains were discovered four days later in the Marion Oaks area. Hall linked to the death after investigators say they found him using her credit cards. Hall was already in jail on unrelated fraud and communication device charges.

Volusia schools to test drone program aimed at stopping shootings

Volusia County Schools will be one of three districts in Florida to test a new high-tech security program that uses fleets of drones to respond to potential school shootings. District officials say the number of drones deployed at each campus will vary based on size and layout. Most schools would have 20 to 30 drones, while larger campuses could have as many as 90.
