VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Volusia County Sheriff's Office is working to hire more armed guardians ahead of the school year.
Officials say some of the guardian candidates from their initial 50 hires did not make it through the vetting process. So, the sheriff's office reposted the position.
The armed guardians will be posted at Volusia County elementary schools. Officials say they have been flooded with more applications, but it's about more than an interview process.
The district needs to fill at least three more spots. If they don't get the guardians trained by August 13th, officials say that off-duty sheriff's deputies will step in.
