Unclaimed cash in Orange County could be yours

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - There's thousands of dollars in unclaimed checks at the Orange County Courthouse, and some of it could belong to you.

"Everything from a couple of penny's, five cents, 10 cents up to, I want to say we have one check that's about $5,000," said spokesman Dain Weister.

Weister said if you've done business at the courthouse, you may be owed money.

"This could be jury payments, vendor payments, some instances its restitution that's being paid out."

He recommends everyone check their unclaimed money list. Weister says one couple couldn't believe it when they found out.

"They were shocked and surprised it was like a big lottery win."

You have till September 1, 2018 to get your money, or else it goes into a forfeiture fund, so make sure to log onto www.myorangeclerk.com and look for your name under unclaimed money. 

"Call us and we'll get your money back!" ​​​​​​​Weister said.

He added that, if you do business at the courthouse, make sure to leave a forwarding address.
