Lebanon kicks Iran's ambassador out of Beirut

Lebanon declared Iran’s ambassador-designate Mohammad Reza Sheibani persona non grata on Tuesday, giving the appointed figure until Sunday to leave the country. The decision comes after a week of meetings between Lebanese officials and other leaders from the region, many of whom have been on the receiving end of Iranian attacks.

President Donald Trump’s approval rating has slipped recently, according to a recent poll.

Trump’s recent approval rating comes amid the ongoing war he launched against Iran which has subsequently resulted in a surge in fuel prices across the United States.

By the numbers:

A four-day Reuters/Ipsos poll found 36% of Americans approved of Trump’s job performance, which is down from last week’s 40%.

Dig deeper:

Views on Trump’s recent handling of the U.S. economy have soured, with just 25% of respondents saying they approved of the president’s handling of the cost of living.

Only 29% of the country was happy with Trump’s overall economic stewardship, which is the lowest rating in either of the president’s administrations and lower than any economic approval rating of former President Joe Biden, Reuters reported.

Americans’ views on Iran war

Americans' approval of the war in Iran was at 35%, down from 37% last week.

What’s more, about 46% of respondents to Reuters’ survey said the war will make the U.S. less safe in the long run.

Only 26% said it would make the country safer, while the rest said it wouldn’t make a difference.

Meanwhile:

On Monday, it was reported that thousands of more troops would be sent to the Middle East, despite the president’s previous comments that military operations in the region would be "winding down."

Gas prices surge

Americans are feeling pain at the pump as gas prices skyrocket.

Big picture view:

The average cost of gas across the country hit $3.96 per gallon, according to the AAA.

That’s 35% higher than a month ago.

Global oil prices have soared since the Iran war began on Feb. 28.

Last week, Brent crude oil, the international standard, briefly rose above $119 per barrel, up from roughly $70 before the war began.

Iran has halted most shipments of oil through the Strait of Hormuz and has also attacked oil and gas facilities around the Persian Gulf in response to an Israeli attack on an important Iranian natural gas field.
