Trump calls Russia's war in Ukraine 'disgusting'

National security analyst Hal Kempfer joins LiveNOW's Andrew Craft to discuss Russia's latest deadly attack on Ukraine and President Donald Trump's most recent comments about the war.

President Donald Trump said he has ordered the U.S. military to reposition two nuclear submarines in response to "highly provocative" statements from Russian officials over the war in Ukraine.

Trump announced the move on his Truth Social account. It wasn’t immediately clear what impact Trump’s order would have on U.S. nuclear subs, which are routinely on patrol in the world’s hotspots, but it comes at a delicate moment in the Trump administration's relations with Moscow.

Trump said Monday he is giving Russian President Vladimir Putin 10 to 12 days to stop the killing in Ukraine, shortening a 50-day deadline he had given the Russian leader two weeks ago. Trump has threatened economic sanctions if progress is not made.

Nuclear submarines repositioned

What they're saying:

"Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that," Trump wrote. "Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

What did Russia say?

Trump also criticized Medvedev a day earlier after the former Russian president said Trump’s threat of punitive tariffs is a "game of ultimatums" and a step toward war, Reuters reported.

The other side:

"Trump’s playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10 … He should remember 2 things: 1. Russia isn’t Israel or even Iran. 2. Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war," Medvedev said on social media earlier this week. "Not between Russia and Ukraine, but with his own country."

Trump threatens Russia with tariffs

President Trump threatens Russia with tariffs and increased U.S. weapon shipments to Ukraine. LiveNOW’s anchor, Andrew Craft gets into the specifics of what the U.S. is sending to Ukraine and other related matters with National Security analyst, Hal Kempfer.

In response, Trump posted, "Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let’s keep it that way, and tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!"

According to Reuters, Medvedev also warned about "how dangerous the fabled 'Dead Hand' can be," referring to the semi-automated Russian command system for launching nuclear missiles if Russian leaders are killed by enemy forces.
