Truck, bridge crash in Sumter County shuts down portions of Florida's Turnpike, traffic rerouted

A tractor-trailer, traveling south on U.S. 301 on Friday hit a Florida Turnpike overpass, officials said. 

The semi-truck was carrying an oversized load of construction equipment that apparently scraped and damaged the top of the overpass, pictures show. 

All lanes at Florida's Turnpike and U.S. Hwy 301 were closed in the afternoon on Nov. 14 after an oversized trailer truck hit the overpass. 

Travelers delayed, diverted

What we know:

North and southbound traffic on Florida's Turnpike and U.S. Hwy 301 were shut down due to a crash involving a tractor trailer and bridge in Wildwood, Friday afternoon.

Florida's Turnpike's north and southbound traffic was diverted at exit 304, Sumter county officials confirmed. 

Southbound 301 traffic was diverted to FL-44, while northbound traffic is being diverted to Warm Springs, the sheriff's office said. 

The Turnpike was reopened at 1:10 p.m. No injuries were reported, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
