Tracking software helps nab Full Sail robbery suspect
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Detectives with the Orange County Sheriff's Office say they have arrested a suspect, accused of robbing a Full Sail University student at gunpoint and taking his laptop.
The robbery occurred on Monday in the Full Sail area at the Indigo Winter Park apartment complex. This robbery matched those that had recently occurred in the area, deputies said.
Several armed robberies were reported between July 11 and July 25. None of the robberies occurred on the Full Sail campus, but many of the victims have been Full Sail students, investigators said. That prompted the school to issue special tracking software, which students were asked to download onto their electronic devices.
On Tuesday, the victim of Monday's robbery notified the Sheriff's Office of the location of his stolen laptop, which they said led investigators to 28-year-old Derek Rucker. Rucker was arrested on a charge of robbery with a firearm.
The investigation regarding the other robberies in the Full Sail area is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
