ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A 14-year-old girl will be mourning the death of her parents this holiday season.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say they were killed in a car crash last weekend, because of another driver who was speeding. Now, the teenager is speaking out about missing her folks.
Sophia Rojas blacked out during the tragic crash. She and her parents were heading home from dinner when FHP troopers said a driver, who was speeding on Orange Blossom Trail, hit the family's car. Investigators say Sophia's parents, Robert and Liliana, were killed.
"They were always ready to help. If somebody has a problem, they're always there for them."
Liliana's brother, Oscar Galvez, said now it's their family who needs help. They have set up a Go Fund Me account to cover funeral expenses.
"And [we] also have to travel to Columbia and do another ceremony with the family," he explained.
Oscar said he is grateful Sophia survived.
"She got an angel, because she's still alive."
Sophia believes her parents have always been her guardian angels.
"They were always telling me, study and keep playing volleyball so I can be a good person."
Even during the most challenging times like this one.
"Always love for God."
Oscar said, the couple lived a real life love story.
"The guy was like an example of love for his wife. It was a true love, and it wasn't a couple of years; it was the whole life."
Sophia agreed
"My mother was saying if my dad died, she would die with him because she loved him, and that's her love."
While Sophia is devastated over losing her parents, there's something that does comfort her.
"I'm happy, because they're together."
The FHP said the investigation continues. Charges are pending against the driver.
