Teen accidentally shot by family member

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A teenage girl was accidentally shot by a relative in Brevard County Sunday morning.
The sheriff's office told Fox 35 that they received a call for the shooting around 10:30 a.m. in the area of South Ridgewood Drive in unincorporated Cocoa.
The victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition after receiving life-threatening injuries.
Family friend Terry Hoffman knew the victim.
He said he remembered seeing her walking home from school everyday.
"We’ve known her since she was a baby," he said. "She walks every evening on her way home from school and she always speaks and waves. I just hope she’s OK."
Cody Rich, another neighbor, said he never heard the gunshot.
"That actually is pretty disturbing. I never heard any noises."
Deputies say a family member was showing another family member a firearm that had recently been purchased.
The firearm discharged, critically wounding the victim.
Deputies are still investigating.
