Tanker overturns on I-95, spills 7,200 gallons of fuel

Southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were shutdown in Brevard County after a tanker flipped on its side and spilled more than 7,000 gallons of biodiesel fuel onto the road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP).

FHP says that the crash happened around 10 a.m. Thursday morning at the Fiske Boulevard interchange. The driver reportedly became distracted and lost control of the tanker.  No other vehicles were involved.

The driver received minor injuries, according to the FHP.  Crews were on the scene immediately and began working to clean up the fuel, which continued into the early evening hours.

For several hours, southbound interstate traffic was diverted at State Road 520; however, all lanes were reopened around 2:30 p.m.
