Shooting involving police officer in Orange City

Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Volusia County.

The shooting occurred on Thursday afternoon at an apartment complex in Orange City, just off of Enterprise Road.

Investigators said an Orange City police officer identified a vehicle that was reportedly stolen earlier in the day, following that vehicle to the Orange City Flat Apartments. It remains unclear if the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, but both vehicles ended up in the parking lot of the apartment complex, where the officer discharged his weapon.

The vehicle then sped away from the location, ending up at a second location a mile away.  Occupants of the vehicle left the area, except for the individual who was shot. She was transported to an area hospital and her identity was not immediately released. Authorities said the injuries are not life-threatening.

The stolen vehicle was taken out of Lake County around 11:30 a.m.  The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating, which is standard procedure for any officer-involved shootings.

Editor's Note: This story has been updated to identity the shooting victim as a woman and not a man, as previously reported.
