Shooting in Sanford leaves one dead and another in grave condition
SANFORD, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Sanford Police say a woman is dead and a man critically wounded after a shooting at a house in Sanford. The shooting happened around 8:40 Wednesday morning, and police had to break down the door to get into the house.
Diane Hanlon, who lives across the street from the house, said she saw it all happen.
“All of a sudden, the street was being swamped, they ran out of their cars. They were kicking on the door, knocking on it. They drew their guns, took the door down,” she said. “There were two ambulances that came and took two people out. They took out a shotgun and a handgun.”
Police blocked-off Orange Avenue in Sanford after the shooting. They gathered evidence from the house where they say the man and woman were shot.
“They were in extremely grave condition when we arrived,” said Bianca Gillett, Sanford Police spokeswoman. “Both were transported alive when they left the scene. The female did die after arriving at the hospital.”
Gillett said the man was able to call 911 after being shot. She said they don't think anyone else was involved.
“We are not looking for any shooter. We assume it's an isolated incident that occurred and we're trying to determine what happened with the two individuals inside that house to have led to where we are, right now.”
Casey Moseley, a neighbor who says he's also a colleague of the man who was shot, says he's shocked by the news.
“Never really had any problems with him, never heard anything from him really. He was kind of quiet, kept to himself,” Moseley said.
Police say they're still gathering evidence from the scene and that this is an ongoing investigation.
