BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - Brevard County students head back to class in just two days and security is a priority for both kids and parents.
In just two more days, students will be back in the classroom, but it will be their first impression on campus that may be different from years past.
Since the new state law was passed this year requiring school resource officers on each campus, the challenge facing many school districts was how to fund this expense. In Brevard County, superintendent Mark Mullins says they will not be fully staffed in that area. So, they explored options to hire security specialists. However, those positions will not be entirely filled in time for school to start on Friday.
Mullins went on to say that "they won't be ready to be deployed to our schools yet, so we're working with law enforcement to provide off duty officers to be in our schools. So our security office is working with all of our agencies to ensure that we have the opportunity to have an armed presence in all of our schools."
So, students, parents, and teachers can expect to see uniformed officers walking around campus this Friday.
