Rare gold coin dropped in Salvation Army red kettle

The Salvation Army finding a rare coin mixed into one of their red kettles.

A spokesman for the nonprofit says a 1904 gold coin, which is an ounce of pure gold, was found in a kettle at the Publix in Venezia Plaza, located at 7640 W. Sand Lake Rd, on Thursday.

In a release, Capt. Ken Chapman said, "“We see generosity on many levels this time of year. Our Red Kettle Program provides us with necessary funding to provide services for those in need all year round. We are grateful for this generous donation and wish the donor a blessed Christmas season.”

The coin's value is estimated at $1,350.
