Port Orange officer accidentally shoots self
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - A Port Orange police officer was shot in the calf on Tuesday. Authorities said the accidental, self-inflicted injury happened as the new officer was conducting training at the New Smyrna Beach Police Shooting range.
The officer, who graduated from the police academy a few weeks ago, is 38 years old. He is stable and was treated for his injuries at the hospital. The name of the officer was not immediately released.
The incident is still under investigation.
