Person shot in Ormond Beach

A Ormond Beach person was shot on Sunday night, according to local police.

The Ormond Beach Police Department says that at about 11:34 p.m. on Sunday, officers responded to the parking lot of the Tomoka Garden Apartment Complex on Tomoka Avenue in reference to gunshots being heard. They discovered a person with non-life threatening injuries upon arrival.

Officers say they spoke to a witness on scene, who reported seeing a newer model white Dodge Charger speeding out of the parking lot of the apartment complex after gunshots rang out. The witness saw the Charger go southbound on South Orchard Street. A BOLO was provided by the officer.

At 11:40 p.m., an officer says he observed a white 2017 Doge Charge with a Georgia tag traveling northbound on South Orchard Street, which was towards the direction of the shooting.  The Doge quickly backed into a random driveway and began traveling southbound. The officer was able to successfully make a traffic stop on the vehicle. Other officers joined him to conduct the felony stop.

The arrest affidavit for this incident says that the driver, Antonio Heard was secured in handcuffs without incident. The only other passenger, Ruben Maddox, was also ordered out of the vehicle and secured in handcuffs without incident. Heard told the officers that there was a handgun in the center console of the vehicle.

A witness from the said reportedly positively identified Maddox and confirmed seeing him run from the parking lot of Tomoka Garden Apartments just moments after hearing gunshots. Both Heard and Maddox were placed in the backseat of a patrol vehicle.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone who may have information on this incident is asked to contact the Ormond Beach Police Department at 386-677-0731.
