Orlando Police investigate shooting near Millenia Mall

Early Sunday morning, Orlando police swarmed around one side of the Millenia 700 Apartments after a shooting. Resident Astrid Hidalgo said it was frightening. "When this is in news, I feel a little scared."

Police said they got the call around 3 a.m. They showed up to find one person shot. First responders took the victim to the hospital. Hidalgo said it was shocking. "Usually it's quiet. I work all the afternoon with my dogs. I never see people fighting or nothing."

Crime scene investigators searched for evidence around the building. Later in the morning, police carried animals in cages out of the building and took them away in their cars. Former Orlando police chief Orlando Rolon said police were conducting their investigation. "There are a lot moving parts. Specifically for the crime scene technicians, detectives meeting with the initial responding officers, to gather as much information as possible. That's what's probably going on right now."

Orlando Police said it was an ongoing investigation. The Millenia 700 apartments are sandwiched between the upscale Millenia Mall and Orlando’s Ikea furniture store. Hidalgo said it was normally a quiet place to live. "Really, I have three month live here. Never I hear anything fight or shooting. It's not okay, but I live here."
