ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Orlando Commissioner Sam Ings on Thursday announced his intentions to run for mayor, in a bid to unseat longtime incumbent Buddy Dyer, who officially launched his re-election efforts last week.
Ings has been serving the residents of Orlando's District 6 since 2006. The district includes the neighborhoods of Holden Heights, MetroWest, Richmond Heights, and Washington Shores, as well as residential areas near Universal Orlando Resort.
Prior to being an elected official, Ings served for 30 years with the Orlando Police Department, retiring as a captain. It is his background in law enforcement that has informed his decision to make crime prevention and public safety a big focus of his campaign.
“I have been relentless in trying to get more police substations in certain neighborhoods for over 10 years, where officers are actually dispatched from the locations to respond faster to calls,” said Ings, in a news release sent to FOX 35. “This is why I am running for Mayor, because I want to expand on what I have achieved in my district throughout the city, and neighborhood policing a top priority for all areas in the city.”
Ings has more of his vision spelled out on this website and social media. You can visit www.IngsforMayor.com or follow him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more campaign updates.
The election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2019.
