Cuisinart Grill Brushes

The Brief

    • Conair has expanded its recall of Cuisinart grill brushes, adding an additional 1,905,805 additional brushes to a previous recall. 
    • The CPSC says the brushes pose a serious ingestion hazard because small bristles can break off, stick to grill grates or food and cause internal injuries.
    • The following model numbers are part of this recall expansion: CGWM-024, CGWM-059, FCB-501, CGS-W18, CCB-134, CGWM-061, CB-395, CCB-3001, CGWM-077, CGWM-058, CCB-012/021, CGWM-060, and FBH-51. 

Conair has expanded its recall of Cuisinart grill brushes, adding additional models and production years after reports of metal bristles breaking off and causing injuries. 

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission updated a recall alert that was previously sent, adding 1,905,805 additional brushes to the July recall for a total of 3,625,800 recalled grill brushes. 

Why you should care:

The CPSC says the brushes pose a serious ingestion hazard because small bristles can break off, stick to grill grates or food and cause internal injuries. Conair has received at least 54 reports of bristles detaching, including three incidents in which someone has swallowed the metal pieces.

By the numbers:

The following model numbers are part of this recall expansion: CGWM-024, CGWM-059, FCB-501, CGS-W18, CCB-134, CGWM-061, CB-395, CCB-3001, CGWM-077, CGWM-058, CCB-012/021, CGWM-060, and FBH-51. 

Some of the recalled brushes were also sold as part of a Premium Grill 10-Piece set (CGS-2010), 13 Piece Wooden Handle Grill Tool Set (CGS-W13), 14 Piece Deluxe Stainless Steel Grill Set (CGS-5014), and 20 Piece Deluxe Grill Set, (CGS-5020).

Dig deeper:

All the impacted models are baton-shaped with black plastic, stainless steel or wood handles. The word "Cuisinart" is printed on the handle of all but two (FCB-501 and CCB-395) of the recalled models. They were sold at Burlington, TJ Maxx, Ross and through online retailers like Amazon and Cuisinart’s website. 

What's next:

People are being asked to stop using the brushes and contact Conair for a refund.
