Mother arrested, accused of leaving child in car overnight
SANFORD, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Seminole County deputies on Sunday found Casey Keller's daughter inside the woman's car, overheating, and going in and out of consciousness.
“Baby's missing,” Keller told 911 dispatchers. “I went down to get her out of the car, and my car's missing, my baby's missing.”
Keller told Seminole County deputies that someone stole her car with her three-year-old inside. Deputies raced to the Vista Haven Apartments while Keller was on the phone with the operator, saying she'd only left her in the car for a little while.
“About an hour maybe," Keller said. “I went upstairs. She was sleeping, so I cracked down the window, I came back down to get her, it wasn't even an hour, I don't know.”
Deputies say that's a lie. They found her car in the parking lot, with the windows rolled up and the delirious little girl inside.
They say Keller went with her three kids for a liquor run Saturday night and left her youngest daughter in the car when they got home. They say she left her there all night.
Keller bonded out of jail and didn't answer the door when we knocked. She's charged with child neglect with great bodily harm.
Deputies say, fortunately, the girl is now in good condition and expected to make a full recovery.
