Man shot while trying to gas up at Wawa, suspect steals car and flees
ORLANDO, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - A trip to a gas station turned violent for a pair friends, as one man was shot.
Around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, police say that a carjacking turned into gunfire at the Wawa on 1200 West Colonial Drive in Orlando. A shooter injured one man and is now on the run in a stolen vehicle.
Two men turned into the Wawa to fill up on gas. They said that one person left the car running and went inside the store. While his friend was waiting, police said that another person walked up to the empty vehicle and tried to get inside. That's when he tried to stop the suspect and the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him.
The shooter allegedly then stole the car and took off. An Orlando police officer was flagged down to help and the victim was taken to the hospital for a non-life threatening injury and is expected to make a full recovery.
The clerk at the Wawa heard three pops of a gun but did not see the shooting.
The Orlando Police Department says that the suspect in this case is described as a short black male in his 20s and 30s. They also described him as chubby and with a short haircut. Investigators are working to identify the suspect.
Since the incident, police say that they have located in the victim's vehicle in Seminole County.
