Man pistol whips girlfriend, then engages police in standoff

The Orlando Police Department says that their officers responded to reports of a domestic disturbance and aggravated battery with a firearm on Gore Street.

They say that the subject had pistol whipped his girlfriend and was inside the residence with three occupants.

When police arrived, officers say that the initial victim and one other occupant exited the home, but the subject remained inside with an elderly female.

Attempts were reportedly made to contact the suspect by announcements and phone, but he did not exit.

Police say that an OPD Crisis Negotiator ultimately made contact with the subject by phone and he exited the home and was taken into the custody by SWAT shortly after 6 a.m. without incident
