Man Baker Acted, accused of setting house fire with wife inside
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Daytona Beach Police say a 64-year-old man intentionally set his house on fire with his wife inside.
It happened Cassin Avenue on Sunday night.
Police say Melvin Weaver, 64, tore the insulation out of his ceiling, put it in the stove and let his home catch fire while his wife was inside.
Investigators say Weaver grabbed a large knife, went outside and started knocking on neighbors doors.
Police say the man's wife was not badly injured, but was hit by her husband who used a wooden cane.
On Monday, a judge issued a Baker Act order for Weaver, transferring him to a mental health institution for evaluation.
