Teen lured into vehicle, held against her will: Detectives
The backstory:
Detectives said the young teenager was walking to school on Jan. 13, near Brookgreen Avenue and West Oak Ridge Road, when Frias approached her and offered a ride, claiming he had just dropped off his niece.
After the girl entered the vehicle, the girl told detectives that Frias drove to a home in the Tangelo neighborhood, locked the doors to his car, and took her phone. The girl reportedly asked to leave and began to cry, stating she "did not want to die."
Detectives said Frias proceeded to molest the girl and perform sexual battery on her for over two hours.
According to investigators, Frias then drove to the parking lot of Shingle Creek Trail and dropped the girl off. The girl said he returned her phone and told her not to tell anyone about what happened, adding she would never see him again. The victim then walked home and spoke with her stepmother over the phone, informing her of what had just happened.
The girl’s cell phone was collected and processed for fingerprints before she completed a sexual assault examination and provided information for a sketch of the suspect.
A review of the cell phone’s location revealed the victim was in the Tangelo neighborhood on Jan. 13, from approximately 9:50 a.m. to 12:20 p.m.
The victim was then taken through the neighborhood and identified the home to which she was taken, according to an arrest affidavit.
Additionally, detectives said they reviewed multiple surveillance videos that corroborated the girl's statements. Detectives then linked a vehicle believed to be involved in the crimes to Frias based on video.
A photo line-up of six men with similar features was administered to the victim, with Frias among the suspects. Detectives said the victim positively identified Frias as the man who assaulted her.
Detectives praise victim for her ‘bravery’
According to investigators, Frias lured the girl into his vehicle as she walked to school on Monday. Detectives said he then drove to another location and sexually battered her. Ultimately, detectives said they would not have been able to arrest Frias without cooperation from the victim.
What they're saying:
"Because of the victim’s bravery, and willingness to work with detectives, our sex crimes unit was able to identify Frias and make an arrest," read a statement from the sheriff's office.
What are the charges against Frias?
What we know:
Frias is charged with three counts of sexual battery, one count of kidnapping, three counts of lewd or lascivious molestation, and one count of unlawful exposure of sexual organs.
What we don't know:
Detectives are concerned that there may be other victims and would like to hear about any possible attempts to lure children. Additional charges are possible.
