Lake County teen arrested, accused of posting threats on social media

Detectives with the Lake County Sheriff's Office say a 14-year-old has been arrested, accused of posting a threat on social media.

According to the arrest affidavit, the teenager posted a picture of an Ohio teen shooter on Instagram, threatening to shoot up two Lake County High Schools.  The specific threat read, "Someone bring me a charger or I'm shooting up South Lake High School on the first day of school, you have been warned Clermont!!!!"

Deputies say the boy in the picture is not the local teen, but an Ohio teen who was charged in a shooting.

Officials at South Lake High didn't waste any time contacting the Sheriff's Office when a student emailed the administration the post marked "urgent!"

Detectives say that when an unknown Lake Minneola High School student responded to the post, "Thank God I don't attend," the defendant replied, "...or Lake Minneola High School."

"We reacted quickly and the boy was arrested," says Lt. John Herrell with the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The teen face a charge of written threats to kill, a felony.
